Inotek has discovered and developed a series of compounds representing a new class of metalloporphyrinic agents with broad and potent activity against oxidative cell damage. INO-4885 (formerly WW-85) is an extremely fast antioxidant catalyst with a rate constant of ~107 M-1 s-1 in the degradation of peroxynitrite to benign species.
INO-4885 has potential use in a broad array of clinical oxidant-induced diseases, as suggested by a reduction of tissue injury in a variety of pre-clinical rodent models. Phase 1 human safety trials are ongoing. A clinical indication for planned Phase 2 trials has been chosen and will be disclosed at a future date.
